A few months ago we launched ‘The Ahi’, a performance skateboard constructed from over 50 square feet of recycled fishing nets, bringing plastic waste from the sea to the streets. The Ahi, proudly made in California, features Carver’s CX mini truck, made locally in El Segundo, CA. We are stoked to announce the anticipated launch of Carver’s Roundhouse ECOthane wheel (65mm 81a), now featured on every Ahi board. ECOthane is made from a unique formula that incorporates soybean oil to offset the reliance on petroleum-based urethane.
As a consumable, skate wheels have shorter lives than the durable Ahi skatedeck, which is designed for a lifetime of skating. In an effort to offset the reliance on fossil fuels within the wheel production process, the incorporation of soybean oil in the ECOthane formula lowers the wheel’s carbon footprint.
Offering an incredibly smooth ride, the new Roundhouse ECOthane Mag wheel profile and formula bring additional grip to keep your wheels engaged with the pavement as you flow from turn to turn. The new formula received the stamp of approval from the Carver team riders, and Carver President Greg Falk, saying:

By riding your skateboard daily, especially for trips less than 1-mile, you can do more than your part to curb fossil fuel consumption. As a reality check, the average American adult consumes an estimated two gallons of oil daily, thus inadvertently supporting fossil fuel exploration and the destruction of our natural environment. As a society, we are aiming to drastically reduce fossil fuel consumption through alternative energy sources (solar and wind), more efficient modes of transportation (electric vehicles), and personal consumption habits (reduced waste). We want to help you disconnect from fossil fuels even more through the ECOthane wheel, just another reason to feel good about pushing more and polluting less!
In an effort to bring cleaner lines to the forefront, we will continue to push forward with innovative alternatives to standard materials, while maintaining the highest level of performance. With California recently voting to ban the plastic bags and legalizing herbal remedies – we are happy to continue the ‘greening’ movement. Now go skate for a cleaner tomorrow!
