Made from 100% recycled fishing nets.
Jenga® Ocean™ & Bureo. The first board game made from recycled fishing nets. Jenga Ocean is made from over 25 square feet of nets proudly sourced through Bureo's Net Positiva recycling program.
Providing a tangible solution to prevent plastic pollution in our oceans, Bureo has partnered with Jenga to create a net positive impact on people and the ocean environment.
Featuring threatened marine animal block designs, players of Ocean Jenga® are encouraged to 'Save the Animals' through special edition rules. Learning about the damaging impact of discarded fishing nets, which account for 10% of plastic pollution in the ocean, players will gain an understanding of how discarded nets are harming marine animals, and learn about what they can do to help.
Robert Grebler, founder of Jenga and world record holder, approached Bureo at the 2015 Ocean Film Festival with an idea to incorporate Bureo’s recycled materials into one of the most well known ‘board games’ in the world. Appropriately named ‘Mr. Jenga’ by the Bureo team, Robert and his business partner Paul Eveloff are behind the game that is now enjoyed in over 80 million households. We are thankful for their support in helping to keep our ocean’s clean, with each game helping to prevent over 1 kg of discarded fishing nets from entering the ocean.
Handrawn and inspired by the sea, the artwork behind Jenga Ocean is the work of Lake Buckley - a surfer, designer, artist, and explorer. The sense of wonder and engagement with the present that characterizes her artistic process is also connected to her relationship with the ocean.
At Bureo, we make skateboards from recycled fishing nets. Our recycling program in Chile, 'Net Positiva', provides fishing net collection points to keep plastic fishing nets out of our oceans. Preventing harmful materials from entering the ocean, our programs protect wildlife and supporting local fishing communities through financial incentives.
Once collected, our nets are washed and prepared for a mechanical recycling process. Within this process, they are shredded and fed through a 'pelletizer', where they are melted and cut into small recycled pellets. These pellets are then injected into steel molds to form our products.
We are on a mission to find innovative solutions to prevent ocean plastics. Our team shares a passion for surfing and the health of the environment. We are dedicated to making a difference and inspiring others to join us in the movement to protect our oceans.
