NEW RESPONSIBILITY

January 07, 2014 1 min read

A recent visit to the National Reserve in Isla Damas provided an opportunity to join a pristine ecosystem and reflect on 2013. As an alternative to a finite ‘resolution’, the experience inspired us to propose an ongoing ‘responsibility’:

“Each and every one of us, no matter who we are and no matter what we do, has a fundamental responsibility…to give our children a world that is safer, healthier, cleaner and more just than that which we inherited.”

-Jacques Cousteau

Mr. Jacques Cousteau’s words are perfectly logical, yet our society continues to devise creative plans to threaten our oceans. From destruction of our fleeting coral reef systems, unsustainable fishing practices, detrimental construction along our coastlines (#SaveKirra), careless slaughtering of vital ocean inhabitants, and ongoing dumping of waste into our waterways.

These are only a few of the threats facing our oceans, we urge you to reach out to your local activists to learn more. Appreciate your surroundings and take on the responsibility to work towards a safer, healthier and cleaner world that generations to come can enjoy.
